Interested in betting, but don't know how to start?
Leave us Your e-mail and we will send You tutorials and information about the best bonuses
First we need to mention that Betfair is not a bookmaker but a bet exchange. We bet with other players and Betfair charges only commissions from our profits. It is set to be max. 5% and the longer we play the lower it is. You don’t need to worry that you will be limit with your high profits because Betfair warmly welcomes winners. You can make bets as high as the market can accept. 1. In Betfair you can bet as if you were a bookmaker or a normal player. Now I will show you the second option. We want to bet on UEFA match Dortmund – Nurnberg. Choose a bookmark ‘Sport’ and in the left menu option ‘Soccer’.
Now look for an option ‘UEFA Cup’ and pick it. Then click on the date of the fixture and choose the match (Dortmund – Nurnberg)
We want to bet on Dortmund so choose an option ‘Match odds’.
You are shown a picture. Before starting, you should click ‘More options’ (below ‘Refresh’) and mark the first, second and third square. It will allow you to watch a balance of profits and losses live (sums in green and red). We want to bet on Dortmund’s win, so click on the highest available odd in blue (Back). Don’t pay attention to odds in pink (Lay) because they are for placing bets. The number under the odd tells us how much we can bet on the given odd. We can obviously place a bet with higher stake, but with worse odds.
After clicking on the right box a menu on the right-hand side will appear. Introduce a sum which you want to bet in the box named ‘Your stake’. The system will automatically calculate your profit.
You can see that in the middle of the screen you can follow your financial state after confirming a bet. Green means profit, red loss. The number in green is different from that in ‘Your Profit’ because of the deduction of Betfair’s commission.
Now click ‘Place bets’ in a right bottom corner.
The system will ask if you are sure of the bet. Click “Confirm”
The bet has been matched, which signalizes a message on the right-hand side. Similar actions should be taken for other bets.
Different search option Write a name of a team and then choose desired fixture and market (in this case match odds).
2. Now we will consider betting on an action not happening. We will use ‘Lay’ market. We will be like a bookmaker because we are interested in Dutch league match Ajax – Heerenveen. We want to bet that Heerenveen doesn’t win, so we play an option Heerenveen but on ‘Lay’ market.
We type a sum we want to win in ‘Your win’ box. Notice the sum we risk.
So, we risk 70€ to win 10€. If Ajax wins or makes a draw we win the bet. Next, as before, click on ‘Send” and ‘Confirm’.
The bet has been matched successfully. Notice the deducted commission from our profit.
3. Putting up bets. Betfair is a market of bets which runs the same as stock exchange. That means that we don’t have to take odds which are on sale, we can put up ours (more convenient) and wait till somebody buys it. We want to bet on Halmstads, but an odd 4.8 is to low for us. However, 5.0 odd is fine and we would surely bet with such. So we click option Halmstads on ‘Back’ market.
Now we put an 5 odd which satisfies us into box ‘Your odds’ and a stake we want to bet. We click ‘Send’, then ‘Confirm’ like before.
The whole bet hasn’t been matched, so the whole part came to the pink side. If anybody wants to bet now, he will simply buy our bet.
Thing may happen that we change our mind and we want to cancel our bet. It’s possible until the bet is not accepted. Thus, we choose ‘Cancel all unmatched’ and we cancel all bets on the market which hasn’t been accepted yet, or we click on crosses and ‘Send’ if we want to cancel one particular bet.
Of course if until the beginning of the match no-one buys our bet it will be automatically canceled. Similarly we can put up stakes for ‘Lay’ market. For example fixture Boulogne – Grenoble. We think odds 8.0 to be too high, but 7.8 is good for us (naturally we can choose 7.6 or 7.4, but there are smaller chances that it will be accepted, because bets which are already on the market have to we accepted in the first place, that is for 7.6 - 3€ and for 7.4- 224€).
We act like in the former case but this time we lower an odd from 8 to 7.8, then we write a stake and confirm the bet.
As we can see it moved to the blue side. Now somebody wanting to bet on 0-1 result in this match will be able to buy it.
Of course here we can as well cancel our bet if it hasn’t been bought and when the match begins, and nobody bought it, it will be automatically canceled. We are done with the guide for beginners. I reckon your knowledge is large enough to start your own adventure with Betfair, however I recommend reading all our articles about current the best market of bets.
